 | Cooper (John Gilbert). - Ecrivain anglais, né en 1723, mort à Londres en avril 1769. D'une ancienne famille du comté de Nottingham, il reçut une excellente éducation à Westminster et à Cambridge. Après avoir publié Power of Harmony (1745, 2 vol.), ouvrage à tendances esthético-psychologiques, il devint l'un des principaux collaborateurs du Museurn de Dodsley. Il a encore écrit : Life of Socrates (1749); Letters on Taste (1754); the Tomb of Shakespeare (1755); Genius of Britain (1756) ; Epistles to the Great from Aristippus in retirement (1758); Poems on several subjects (1764). | |
